Bitcoin mining electricity cost is decided before you buy: by a machine's watts, not its headline hashrate. At $0.08 per kWh, the eight flagship miners below cost $6.57 to $10.90 per day in electricity alone, and the most efficient uses less than half the power per terahash of the least efficient. This guide gives each model's exact daily cost at three power prices and the one formula behind every figure. It makes no income or payback claim: revenue depends on difficulty and the Bitcoin price when you mine.
Bitcoin Mining Electricity Cost by Miner
Every figure in this guide comes from the current MineForgeX catalog: hashrate, watts, efficiency and price, with daily energy use calculated as watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by 24 hours. Cooling plant load, pool fees and facility overhead sit on top of these miner-only figures, so treat them as the floor of your power bill, not the whole of it.
| Miner | Hashrate | Power | Efficiency | Price | Daily Energy |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bitmain Antminer S21 Pro | 234 TH/s | 3,510 W | 15.0 J/TH | $3,490 | 84.24 kWh |
| Bitmain Antminer S23 | 318 TH/s | 3,498 W | 11.0 J/TH | $7,750 | 83.95 kWh |
| Bitmain Antminer S23 Hyd | 580 TH/s | 5,510 W | 9.5 J/TH | $13,300 | 132.24 kWh |
| Bitmain Antminer S23 XP Hyd | 600 TH/s | 5,340 W | 8.9 J/TH | $15,300 | 128.16 kWh |
| MicroBT Whatsminer M60S+ | 210 TH/s | 3,570 W | 17.0 J/TH | $2,880 | 85.68 kWh |
| Bitdeer SealMiner A4 Pro Air | 336 TH/s | 3,662 W | 10.9 J/TH | $6,750 | 87.89 kWh |
| Bitmain Antminer S21 XP Hydro | 473 TH/s | 5,676 W | 12.0 J/TH | $8,450 | 136.22 kWh |
| Canaan Avalon A1566 | 185 TH/s | 3,422 W | 18.5 J/TH | $2,390 | 82.13 kWh |
Two patterns matter. First, daily energy use is surprisingly flat across the air-cooled models: all eight machines draw roughly 3.4 to 5.7 kW, so the difference is what each kilowatt buys you. Second, price per terahash runs the opposite way to efficiency: the cheapest hashrate here is the Avalon A1566 at $12.92 per TH/s and the Whatsminer M60S+ at $13.71, while the efficiency leader, the S23 XP Hyd, costs $25.50 per TH/s. Cheap machines cost less to buy and more to run; efficient machines cost more to buy and less to run. Your power price decides which side wins.
Daily Power Cost at Three Power Prices
Multiply daily energy by your power price. The table below does that arithmetic at $0.05, $0.08 and $0.10 per kWh, the range most buyers in this guide are actually choosing between.
| Miner | Daily kWh | At $0.05/kWh | At $0.08/kWh | At $0.10/kWh |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Bitmain Antminer S21 Pro | 84.24 | $4.21 | $6.74 | $8.42 |
| Bitmain Antminer S23 | 83.95 | $4.20 | $6.72 | $8.40 |
| Bitmain Antminer S23 Hyd | 132.24 | $6.61 | $10.58 | $13.22 |
| Bitmain Antminer S23 XP Hyd | 128.16 | $6.41 | $10.25 | $12.82 |
| MicroBT Whatsminer M60S+ | 85.68 | $4.28 | $6.85 | $8.57 |
| Bitdeer SealMiner A4 Pro Air | 87.89 | $4.39 | $7.03 | $8.79 |
| Bitmain Antminer S21 XP Hydro | 136.22 | $6.81 | $10.90 | $13.62 |
| Canaan Avalon A1566 | 82.13 | $4.11 | $6.57 | $8.21 |
Read the table as a monthly bill by multiplying by 30: at $0.08 per kWh, the S21 Pro costs about $202 a month in electricity, the S23 XP Hyd about $308, and the A1566 about $197. Those monthly figures are electricity only. If your site charges demand fees, cooling plant power or a hosting margin, add those separately rather than assuming the miner wattage covers them.
Why J/TH Is Your Power Bill in Disguise
Joules per terahash is simply watts per terahash, and it converts directly into money. At $0.08 per kWh, each J/TH costs $0.00192 per terahash per day (24 hours times $0.08, divided by 1,000). That gives a one-line comparison:
- S23 XP Hyd at 8.9 J/TH: $0.0171 per TH per day
- S23 Hyd at 9.5 J/TH: $0.0182 per TH per day
- A4 Pro Air at 10.9 J/TH: $0.0209 per TH per day
- S23 at 11.0 J/TH: $0.0211 per TH per day
- S21 XP Hydro at 12.0 J/TH: $0.0230 per TH per day
- S21 Pro at 15.0 J/TH: $0.0288 per TH per day
- M60S+ at 17.0 J/TH: $0.0326 per TH per day
- A1566 at 18.5 J/TH: $0.0355 per TH per day
The gap between the best and worst here is more than double: the A1566 costs about $0.0355 per terahash per day at $0.08 per kWh, against $0.0171 for the S23 XP Hyd. Over a 600 TH/s fleet, that difference is roughly $11 per day in electricity, or about $330 a month, before any other cost. This is why two machines with similar daily bills can be very different buys: the hydro models look expensive per day only because they hash far more per unit.
Who Each Efficiency Tier Is For — and Not For
- Sub-10 J/TH hydro (S23 Hyd, S23 XP Hyd): for operators with a liquid-cooling loop already built or budgeted, and for power-constrained sites where every watt must earn maximum hashrate. Not for buyers with no cooling plant: the miner alone is only part of that project, and the S23 XP Hyd is currently Pre-order, so allocation timing matters.
- 10–12 J/TH (A4 Pro Air, S23 air, S21 XP Hydro): for standard halls and mixed fleets. The air-cooled S23 and A4 Pro Air need no cooling loop, while the S21 XP Hydro suits sites that already run hydro. Not for the cheapest possible entry ticket: these cost $17.86 to $24.37 per TH/s.
- 15–18.5 J/TH air (S21 Pro, M60S+, A1566): for buyers with cheap power and tight capital, or for a first fleet where low purchase price matters more than peak efficiency. The S21 Pro is US Warehouse Ready and the M60S+ is In Stock (Spot Delivery), so both suit fast deployment. Not for expensive-power sites: at $0.10 per kWh, the efficiency penalty is paid every single day for the life of the machine.
Before You Order: Power, Cooling and Delivery Checks
- Confirm your real power price, including demand charges and taxes, not just the headline energy rate. A $0.02 per kWh error moves a 600 TH/s fleet's monthly electricity bill by hundreds of dollars.
- Confirm cooling first: air halls take the air-cooled models, hydro loops take the Hyd models, and immersion tanks take immersion-rated models only. Add cooling plant load to miner watts when sizing power.
- Confirm voltage, phase and rack space against the product page for the exact model, and confirm order terms: Pre-order on the S23 XP Hyd, Limited Allocation on the S23 family and A4 Pro Air, and spot or warehouse availability on the S21 Pro, M60S+ and A1566.
- Confirm delivery: MineForgeX quotes insured DDP freight through the RFQ, with customs cleared to the data centre door, and every model in this guide carries a 12-month warranty.
- Model the full project, not the headline hashrate: miners, cooling plant, pool fees and facility overhead together. The profitability calculator at mineforgex.com/calculator takes your own power price and models the result, and the turnkey infrastructure options at mineforgex.com/infrastructure cover containers and cooling for sites building at scale.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the cheapest Bitcoin miner to run per day?
On miner watts alone at $0.08 per kWh, the Canaan Avalon A1566 is cheapest at $6.57 per day, but it also hashes least at 185 TH/s. Per terahash, the Bitmain Antminer S23 XP Hyd is cheapest at $0.0171 per TH per day. Judge by cost per terahash, not by the daily bill alone.
How do I calculate my own miner's electricity cost?
Daily cost equals watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by 24, multiplied by your price per kWh. For the S21 Pro at $0.08: 3,510 / 1,000 x 24 x $0.08 = $6.74 per day. Apply the same formula to any catalog model using its listed watts.
Does a more efficient miner always pay back faster?
No. Efficiency lowers the daily power bill, but the purchase price, your power rate, network difficulty and the Bitcoin price all decide the outcome, and this guide forecasts none of them. Efficient machines win most clearly where power is expensive or capped; cheap machines win where power is cheap and capital is tight.
Should I buy hydro miners if I have no cooling loop?
Not yet. A hydro miner without a loop, dry cooler and water treatment is an unusable purchase. Budget the cooling plant first, or choose an air-cooled model such as the S23 or A4 Pro Air, and compare the full project cost in the calculator before committing.
Electricity cost rewards buyers who do the arithmetic before they order. Pick your real power price, rank machines by cost per terahash at that price, then check cooling, voltage and delivery for the winner. The efficiency leader in this guide is the Bitmain Antminer S23 XP Hyd at 8.9 J/TH, available at mineforgex.com/product/antminer-s23-xp-hyd-600t, and the value entry is the Avalon A1566 at $12.92 per TH/s — the right one is whichever survives your own power-price math. Request a MineForgeX quote today with your target hashrate, power price and destination, and the allocation, DDP delivery and warranty handling will be confirmed for your order size before you commit.
